About Guardian Homes
A guardian home is where a loving family gets to keep a puppy for no purchase price, but Midwest Valley Doodles will have breeding rights of that puppy, and use it for breeding purposes when it comes of age, after passing all necessary health testing. The family would be in charge of all normal costs of owning a dog, while we would cover any costs breeding related. Guardian homes help us to be able to continue to grow our breeding program, while also keeping the amount of dogs that we personally own to a manageable number, that way every dog is getting all the love and attention they deserve! The puppy would live with their family, and only return to us for any health testing, breeding, or whelping. Once the dog is retired, we would cover the cost of the neuter or spay, and they would live with their family for the rest of their lives.

For Female Dogs
Female guardian dogs would come to our home mid-heat cycle. After breeding, she would then return home with her family and remain there through the majority of pregnancy. She would get an xray, and then come live with us about a week before her due date. She would stay with us through birth and while nursing her puppies, about 7 weeks. The female would be required for 4 litters before retirement, unless decided otherwise.
For Male Dogs
Male dogs would need to be available for stud services whenever needed. They would either come for brief meetings, or be able to stay with us while being used for breeding, typically 3-7 days. An advance notice would be given when the male would be needed.
Home Requirements

Must live no more than 2 hours away from Russell, Iowa.

Must provide a home that is loving, clean, and safe for the puppy.

Fencing, whether physical or invisible is highly preferred.

Cannot own or house another intact dog.

Must feed an approved, high-quality brand of dog food, keep dog up to date on all required vaccinations as well as flea/tick and heartworm preventatives, and keep dog in good condition- get dog groomed every 6-8 weeks. (Dog would get free grooming and boarding while intact if brought to me for services!!)

Must socialize dog as a puppy, and through adulthood.

Must be willing to leave dog with us for necessary time period of breeding or whelping.

Must review, sign, and agree to Guardian Contract.
